Lead Tree Climber - 

Qualifications 

Applicant must have a minimum of 4 years’ experience working on a tree service crew. 

Has a current ISA or TCIA certification for Tree Climber Specialist.  

Must have advanced knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and correct arboricultural techniques for the trimming, pruning, maintaining and removal of large trees 

Knows and understands the American National Standards for Tree Care Operations (ANSI Z133.1-current version) 

Has extensive knowledge and experience with rope lowering large branches and trunk sections with rigging equipment, piecing down sections of large diameter trees and safely hitting the desired drop zone. 

Has experience working with a crane operator to assist in hazardous and large tree removal. 

Must possess valid driver’s license and be able to be insured by company’s vehicle insurance policy. Must have experience driving and backing up trailers. 

Must read, write, speak English to be able to clearly communicate with crews and crane operators. 

 

Responsibilities 

Trims and/or removes trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift  

Will cut branches or trunk sections and drops or lowers them safely to the ground  

Help promote and maintain good customer and public relations as well as with employees 

Directs crew when crew lead is away from the job site 

Takes on leadership role when appropriate 

Responsibility for numerous technical decisions concerning crew readiness and deployment without technical advice or assistance 

Keeps informed of new equipment and specifications, standards, practices and operating procedures 

Uses appropriate tools, will fell trees or trimmed trunks and buck them into manageable pieces 

Helps crew leader train new employees on proper procedures 

Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around work area 

Assumes responsibility for the inspection and proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and other work equipment 

Requests repair or replacement of equipment when necessary 

Safely operate company vehicles including crew truck, chip truck, and medium duty dump truck and be able to pull and back up trailers safely.
