SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provides supervision and leadership of area line crew in the Ashton area.   Possesses skills and ability for the supervision of construction, operation, and maintenance for the Cooperative’s electrical system.  Must have demonstrated knowledge and skills required to perform all aspects of overhead and underground line work, safely, and without supervision.  Is an experienced journeyman lineman, preferably has demonstrated supervisory capabilities.


DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES (End Results Expected):

 

  1. Assists Operations Manager in setting and carrying out appropriate goals, budgets, work schedules, and other duties as assigned. Is responsible for the assignment and coordination of work and tasks to the line crew in an efficient and safe manner.
  2. Is responsible for supervising crew and equipment for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power lines. Assists in all work activities.
  3. Operates, and has knowledge of basic line substation equipment reclosers, regulators, breakers and switches. Knows general procedures and practices for operating electrical distribution equipment.
  4. Supervises and assists crew in installation of single and three phase transformers, secondary services, and meters connections.
  5. Supervises and assists crew in the installation and connection of voltage regulators, capacitors, and other line equipment. Use skills and knowledge to install typical electrical equipment.
  6. Supervises and assists crew in the operations and maintenance of equipment, including backhoe, trencher, aerial bucket truck, digger derrick truck, and other equipment.
  7. Provides leadership and training for line crew, apprentices, and others by using efficient safe practices and procedures.
  8. Takes assigned on-call duty on a rotating basis, providing after hour line, consumer work.
  9. Supervises and assists crew in trimming trees, maintaining right-of-way, maintenance tasks such as pole testing, line inspecting, pole numbering, equipment oil sampling, equipment repair and testing.
  10. Maintains all safety and DOT required certifications, including CDL, CPR, and OSHA required training.
  11. Is responsible for reporting of records and submittal of required data, work order sheets, meter and equipment numbers, material tickets, oversees material reporting in an accurate and timely manner.
  12. Understands and enforces Cooperative policies and procedures, work rules, and ensures compliance.
  13. Performs related duties as assigned

Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.  Must provide leadership and motivation to promote excellent crew moral and work ethics.  Must communicate and correspond with members, employees, management, and others to ensure efficient, safe, and professional relationships are maintained.

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

Must possess good communicative skills to effectively express one ’s self to all levels of employees, including line crews, engineering and operation staff and management.  Knows and uses correct verbal communication skills to direct, motivate and otherwise interact with line crew and others.

 

WRITTEN:

Ability to clearly and effectively create and respond to written instructions.  Must turn in legible completed forms and paperwork efficiently and in a timely manner.

 

SCHEDULING AND PLANNING:

Must be able to schedule, organize, and direct line crew to perform and complete assignments as required. Responsible to coordinate and plan construction tasks to make jobs safe and efficient for line crew and others.  Must be flexible and show leadership ability to initiate projects and change jobs on short notice.

 

EDUCATION:

Must be a qualified Journeyman Lineman. High School Diploma or equivalent education. 


EXPERIENCE:

Must have been employed as a qualified Journeyman Lineman for a minimum of five years.  Will preferably have experience supervising crews in a foreman capacity.  Must be knowledgeable with RUS construction.  Must be competent in all aspects of distribution operation and maintenance for a power cooperative.


OTHER SKILLS:

Must have a CDL, OSHA 1910.269 certifications and safety training.  Must be able to operate and use computers, working with programs in a network setting and for recording data and information and to communicate as needed.

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Must be qualified to operate a bucket truck, backhoe, digger/derrick truck, chain saw, and other hydraulic equipment and hand tools.  Computers, faxes, phones and other electronic communication equipment.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

 Some office time expectations as well as supervising and working with crews in an outdoor setting doing construction and maintenance.  Seasonal with harsh winter conditions.  Small crew size.  Traveling and working from vehicles.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Required to take rotating on-call duty as being integral with position.  Must live within 15 minutes of the Ashton office.
